Important Information and Dates:
-return your home reading when you are ready for a new book
-library book exchange is Tuesday and Thursday each week
-check the Google Classroom for activities, resources, etc.
-last day of school before the break is Friday December 22nd, we finish at 12:00
-classes start Monday January 8th after the winter break
Our Week:
-ask your child about what has happened in our class read aloud of The Wild Robot
-Grade 2 Math students continue to work on skip counting using money (i.e. counting by 5's using nickels) and place value (representing numbers to 500 in different ways: base 10 blocks, numerals, number words, standard form and showing hundreds, tens, ones separately-5 hundreds, 3 tens, 5 ones=535)
-Grade 1 Math students are working on creating a classroom number line- 1-100 (each group got to work on part of the full number line)
-Roots of Empathy baby visit for Grade 1 students-saw how baby Mario has grown and talked about what to do when he is upset and cries
-We started new literacy groups with a continue focus on phonics, ask your child what group they are in and what they are working on
-Writing: we did another writing sample with the kids to see where they are at-10 minutes of class discussion on a topic, 10 minutes to plan using drawings and 20 minutes to write
-Inquiry (Social Studies): we continue to talk about our family communities and our school/neighborhood communities, kids are working on a portrait of their family community
