This Week:

Both Sunrise and Glacier continue to work on writing stamina during journal writing. This week, Sunrise was given the prompt “If I had a superpower it would be…” and Glacier was given the prompt  “I want to tell you about…” and “My favorite game is…” We also worked on making sure our sentences relate to these topics instead of diverting into new ideas.

In math, the grade 1’s continue to work on understanding place value with ones and tens in two digit numbers. We have played games and worked with base ten blocks to explore this concept. The grade 2’s have been working on expanded form when looking at three digit numbers. For example the number 483 can be written as 400+80+3= 483. They have been engaging in “What’s My Number” and Number of the Day to explore and dive deeper into number concepts.

Both classes have begun a new and exciting Social Studies inquiry about community. We asked the students the question “What makes your community of Tuscany a good place to live?” The students worked in groups to draw and label on large chart paper what makes up the community of Tuscany. They came up with some excellent ideas. The schools, family, friends, people caring for one another, the fire station, the duck pond were just a few ideas. We have started to focus on all the different people who make up different communities. This past week, we started to look at our family communities and what that looked like. We did some guided drawing practice where we focused on drawing realistic heads, necks, eyes, and lips. The students’ will soon use their new face drawing skills to create a family portrait.

Congratulations to the choir students for their wonderful performances on Thursday afternoon and evening! The performers displayed much enthusiasm that was enjoyed by all!
